Hey, you!

I like to describe Words Are Like Magic as a children’s book for women (I wanted to say grown-ass women but didn’t know if that sounded very professional). It’s a collection of whimsical rhymes that helps us understand what our sisters are feeling when walking through different seasons. Some of the poems are funny (what to say to your friend who doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life, to your pregnant friend, to your friend with different political views) and others are more heavy (what to say to your friend battling depression, to your friend struggling with self-image, to your friend who has miscarried). But they all help us to be more understanding and encouraging friends who aren’t afraid to show up even when we don’t quite know what to say.

Kristen Ley brings each poem to life with beautiful and inspiring illustrations, which really make this book a perfect gift. While I of course want you to have a copy for yourself, I truly believe that each person who reads this book will be able to think of at least one friend (if not several) who would be encouraged by it. My hope is that Words Are Like Magic will help women to know that they are not alone. To feel seen, known, and loved. Now go spread some joy with your magical words.

XOXO,

Emily Alexander Moore
