About the Book
Words Are Like Magic is a whimsical collection of rhymes about showing up to life's awkward and painful seasons. Inspired by the stories of women who have been hurt by thoughtless words, or worse, no words at all, these poems help us understand how our friends may be feeling so that we can be there for them with courage and grace.
Some are lighthearted and funny: what to say to your pregnant friend, to your friend with different political views, to your friend who doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life. Others are heavy and raw: what to say to your friend walking through infertility, to your friend battling depression, to your friend struggling with self-image. But they all encourage us to show up for our sisters–to help each other to feel seen, known, and loved with our magical words.
About the Author
Emily Alexander Moore is an author, the owner of marketing agency, Moore Media Group, and consistently the last mom to drop her kid off at daycare. She changed her major five times in college and has changed careers five times since so she knows what it means to wander. Thousands of people have read Emily’s words through her weekly email, her blog, or her contributive writing, and she finds deep joy in inspiring women through short stories. Emily lives outside of Jackson, Mississippi with her two favorite people in the world: her husband, Tyler, and their daughter, Wren.
About the Illustrator
Kristen Ley is the founder, owner and creative director of Thimblepress®. Founded in a garage back in 2012, Thimblepress® is a design & lifestyle company aiming to create products that make people happy. Kristen also runs kristenley.com where she focuses her efforts on mentoring and creative consulting with individuals and brands. She offers monthly mentoring, weekend workshops and creative calls to help an individual or brand take next steps, develop products and/or marketing plans and work to achieve goals.
In Kristen’s free time, she enjoys painting, traveling, perusing the local flea markets & hanging out with her fiancé Bill Allen and her two Goldendoodles, Willow & Henry!
